When looking at a projected image, if you see an unusual amount of yellow or greenish hues in the image on the screen, chances are, you're seeing Colour Decay.
Many LCD projectors can suffer from Colour Decay after extended periods of usage. DLP projectors on the other hand, have a technological advantage of guarding against Colour Decay after extended use.
Colour Decay may manifest itself on many LCD projectors after an extended period of usage (eg: 2,500-4,000 hours of on-time operation). Many manufacturers of LCD projectors limit warranty coverage between 2,000 and 3,000 hours of on-time operation (or 2 to 3 years whichever comes first).
Maintenance calculations are based on estimated parts costs, labour costs, and recommended replacement periods. DLP® projectors enable sealed optics which do not require filters.
DLP® models without filters will have "Filter-free" listed under filter replacement and cleaning fields.
Aside from "Filter-free" DLP® models, all other maintenance costs can be manually changed by typing new values in the relevant input box.
Recommended Filter Replacement (Hrs) Many projector user manuals recommend filter replacement to be done in conjunction with lamp replacements. In such a case, the recommended replacement time would be based on replacing the filter when the lamp is replaced which, on average is between 2,000 to 4,000 hours.
Manufacturer's recommended Filter Cleaning interval (hrs)
Many manufacturers recommend filter cleanings to be done every 100 hours of on time or as needed (roughly 1x a month).
